While cruising the open gulf, sailors rely on the latest devices to navigate to the best fishing spot or stay vigilant on Florida’s changing weather conditions. Whether it’s a mobile app or new onboard navigation system, boat owners can enhance their navigation and information resources with these devices.
Regardless if you prefer a mobile app or built-in technology, a wide range of technological options are available to make your next trip on the water effortless!
iNavX, a download for iPhone, iPad touch and iPad, allows mariners to access the official current local NOAA marine charts. Boaters can plot their position in real-time distance, get directions to favorite spots, and transmit local data such as wind direction and speed, depth, official marine weather notifications, as well as gauge engine battery life.
NavPlay is an app for mobile navigation that allows mariners to download color-coded chartplotters and set a course with waypoints at the touch of a button. While cruising, boaters can customize their positions with real-time data on weather forecasts, heading, boat speed and depth. Safety is another big component with this app. While docked, boaters can leave their iPad onboard with NavPlay and set an alarm if conditions change.
Garmin’s GSD 26 CHIRP Professional Sonar Module takes high-definition sonar to the next level with technology that map out of the sea floor on multiple frequencies at one time. The mixed frequency mode allows boaters to adjust manually to produce clear mapping from shallow water to depths up to 10,000 feet to target specific fish species.
Want a little extra help navigating problems with your boat’s engines? Actisense Engine Monitoring Unit (EMU-1) monitors diesel and gas analog engine and tank level data. Each interface can connect with up to six tanks simultaneously for quantity measurement, gauge oil pressure, two tachometers, and four high/low alarm inputs.
The Dometic Smart Touch Integrated Intelligence Control (STIIC) is a one-touch system that allows boaters to control the ship’s air conditioning, water makers, ice makers, refrigeration and ventilation systems, and engine vibration monitors that alert warning thresholds. The mobile app allows users to monitor all of the systems from one location and change settings or diagnose a problem.
